SELF EVALUATION QUIZ Choosing a career of choice may be one of the most important choices of your life. Nextsteps.org told me from my survey results that I was well fitted to be a hotel manager. Nextsteps deducted this occupation by combining my leadership attributes, and desire to work indoors. I felt the self evaluation was fairly accurate considering I have always wanted to go into management. Home 8/4/2009 4 Jeremy Tsui

A resume is a way of “selling” yourself to your employer. Resumes should be written in to incorporate past working experience and education. Similar to the Job Application, never lie in your resume. Lastly, your resume should be an outline of who you are. Don’t be too specific but give the employer a general idea of who you are. Home Example Resume 8/4/2009 6 Jeremy Tsui

The Cover letter is a way of personalizing your resume. Without a cover letter, a list of accomplishments may seem generic and insincere. With the Cover Letter, you can show your employer your knowledge of the company, enthusiasm for the new job, and add your own personal touch to the resume. Here are a few steps to write a successful cover letter- Be Honest as always Be straightforward Let the employer know how you can contribute Home Example Cover Letter Example Cover Letter 8/4/2009 7 Jeremy Tsui

There are typically three types of references Work Reference (i.e. supervisors, previous employers) Academic Reference (i.e. past teachers or instructors) Personal or Character Reference (i.e. close friend) Home Example Reference Sheet Example Reference Sheet 8/4/2009 8 Jeremy Tsui

The interview is possibly the most important step in the employment process. If you filled out application properly, the interview should merely be about persuading the employer to hire you. Remember, it is important to dress properly for an interview Guys should be clean shaven, have fresh breath and clean teeth, wear deodorant, and always wear dress pants with something nice. Girls should wear little to no perfume, be light on the makeup and fingernail polish, and wear simple but suitable clothes. Home Example Interview 8/4/2009 9 Jeremy Tsui

A thank you letter should be written after the interview to set yourself apart from the other candidates. Thank the employer for his or her time and be sincere about how much you want the job. Home Example Thank You Letter Example Thank You Letter 8/4/2009 10 Jeremy Tsui

When resigning from a job, always remember to be professional. If you are impolite, the employer may not give you a severance package. Be brief in your letter and remember not to burn bridges between you and the boss in case of future opportunities.
