1 Jeremy Gerber Northridge High School

2  Students build a robot arm to pick up objects and move them into milk jugs on a field.  Objects for this year include pencils, nails, pvc pipes, and ping pong balls.  Goal is move as many of these objects as possible in 3 minutes. http://www.soinc.org/sites/default/files/uploa ded_files/robotarmonepage120908.pdf

3  West Goal Box is the “PVC Box.”  North Goal Box is the “Pencil Box.”  East Goal Box is the “Nail Box.”  Where do the ping pong balls go?  The Bonus Jug  The final ping pong ball.

4  Shortest Time  Least number of motors (will probably never get this far)  Lowest labeled voltage (seriously will never get this far!!!)

6  Don’t be afraid to yell “Stop!”  You need kids with mechanical skills, not necessarily honors students.  TIME, TIME, TIME  Practice fixes everything, so don’t be quick to change.
