Systemwide Drought Survey 6 2013/2014 Drought Measures Most campuses have completed roughly 50-100% of the 160+ drought measures committed to last year. Reduce/eliminate irrigation of ornamental turf In process at most campuses. Installing water efficient plumbing fixtures and replace aging infrastructure In process at most campuses. Keep outdoor irrigation to the minimum level needed to preserve significant plant assets Most campuses in compliance.

Systemwide Drought Survey 7 Eliminate “annual” vegetation Most campuses in compliance. Consider options for rainwater capture and water recycling Four campuses have access to non-potable water sources. Some campuses are looking at other alternative water supplies on projects. Reduce fleet washing Most campuses in compliance. Spot pressure washing as needed instead of schedule washing. Most campuses in compliance.

Taking Efficiency to the Next Level 8 In summary, current drought response actions include turf conversions, enhanced leak detection, fixture replacements, central plant changes, and expanded use of recycled water. Scaling Up Water Efficiency o Most UC campuses have already completed all water efficiency projects that they can self-finance with a combination of internal borrowing plus external rebates. o To enable further investments in water efficiency, the UC Office of the President is working to establish a financing program similar to our award-winning energy efficiency program.
