“As best as can be determined, the world is now warmer than it has been at any point in the last two millennia, and, if current trends continue, by the end of the century it will likely be hotter than at any point in the last two million years.” ~ ELIZABETH KOLBERT http://www.notable-quotes.com/g/global_warming_quotes.html

Preservation of our environment is not a liberal or conservative challenge, it's common sense. - RONALD REAGAN http://www.notable-quotes.com/g/global_warming_quotes.html

Global warming is a terrible crisis that we have come across. The increase in global temperatures can highly effect our ecosystem. It doesn’t just effect us humans; it effects everything on Earth. For instance, animals, plants, insects, etc. Due to global warming, the snow on mountain ranges has been melting rapidly (news.nationalgeographic.com). Also, coral reefs have been dying off, and the amount of recorded wild fires has increased (news.nationalgeographic.com).

Hydroelectric Power Hydroelectric power is a renewable resource. Many places in the world get a majority of their energy through this source. Such as Norway, Canada, Brazil, New Zealand, Paraguay, Venezuela, and Switzerland. Also, about 20% of the worlds electricity was supplied by hydroelectric power in 2006. This type of power source, is highly looked upon due to its cleanness and efficiency. Over thousands of years, similar creations, such as water mills have been used. Although it is commonly used in some places, there are some flaws in this source. sciencekids.coinz

A hydroelectric power plant seems very complicated with all those pumps and turbines, but its very simple when broken down. Water is needed to run a hydroelectric power generated plant. The water is held behind a dam forming a reservoir. The force of the water through the little opening of the dam spins the blade of the turbine. The turbine is connected to a generator that makes electricity as the turbine spins. After passing through the turbine the water flows back into the river on the other side of the dam. Thus creating what we call electricity. Tvakids.com/electricity/hydro.htm

Conclusion In closing, global warming is a terrible issue that needs to be taken care of. There are numerous solutions to this crisis such as cutting use of fossil fuels and finding other energy producing resources. Through this power point, I have talked about the pros and cons of hydroelectric power, my selected renewable resource. Also, the process of how energy is created through using this source. Hopefully, I have shown that hydroelectric power is a promising resource that should be used more in the future.
