5 Writing Mini Lesson: Adjective & Adverb Phrases Adjective prepositional phrases modify, or give more information about, a noun Adverb phrases modify a verb (or adjective/adverb) These phrases are often seen in research writing to give further information in our sentences. In our sentence, the adjective/adverb phrases often come AFTER the noun or verb.

6 Practice: Let’s underline the prepositional phrase & label it as ADV or ADJ 1. The woman with beautiful hair entered the store. 2. A trip along the Tuul river was being planned 3. They young boy with the blue jacket was bit by the little dog. 4. Due to the extremely cold weather, we packed extra blankets for the trip. 5. Critical thinking is rarely seen in classrooms of developing countries due to a lack of current text books.

11 Lets Look at a Research Article: Culture is often neglected in English as a Foreign Language (EFL), and ESL teaching/learning, or introduced as no more than supplementary diversion to language instruction. Yet changes in linguistic and learning theory suggest that culture should be highlighted as an important element in language classrooms.
