2 Grade 10 Mathematics Courses There are three possible courses you may choose from in grade 10 MPM2D1 Academic math MPM2P1 Applied math MAT2L1 Essential math

3 Choosing The Correct Course Level When deciding on the level of course to select you should consider the following: What is your desired destination? Check the required prerequisite. You should choose the level that will ensure maximum success. You should achieve 70% or above in the prerequisite course to ensure success at the next grade level. Keep in mind that academic and university courses move much faster and are more theoretical. Applied courses are more practical.

4 Grade 11 Mathematics Courses There are four grade 11 mathematics courses you may choose from. MCR3U1 Functions and Relations MCF3M1 Functions MBF3C1 Math of Personal Finance. MEL3E1 Math for Everyday

5 MCR3U1 Functions and Relations This course introduces the mathematical concept of the function by extending students’ experiences with linear and quadratic relations. Students will investigate properties of discrete and continuous functions, including trigonometric and exponential functions. Students will reason mathematically and communicate their thinking as they solve multi-step problems.

6 MCF3M1 Functions This is University/College Preparation. You may enter this course if you have been successful in 10 applied or 10 academic mathematics. This course introduces basic features of the function. It focuses on quadratic, trigonometric and exponential functions and their use in modelling real-world situations.

7 MBF3C1 Foundations for College Mathematics This course enables students to broaden their understanding of mathematics as a problem-solving tool in the real world. Students will extend their understanding of quadratic relations; investigate situations involving exponential growth; solve problems involving compound interest; solve financial problems connected with vehicle ownership; develop reasoning and analytic skills and problem solving skills. The prerequisite for this course is 10 applied mathematics.

8 MEL3E1 Mathematics for Work and Everyday Life This course is workplace preparation mathematics. This course focuses on the everyday use of mathematics at work and at home. Students not requiring math for their post- secondary destination may take a grade 9 applied, grade 9 academic or grade 9 essential math course plus 11 and 12 workplace math to meet their graduation requirement of 3 math credits.

9 Grade 12 Mathematics Courses There are six possible grade 12 mathematics courses to choose from. MHF4U1 Advanced Functions MCV4U1 Calculus and Vectors MDM4U1 Data Management MCT4C1 Mathematics for College Technology MAP4C1 Foundations for College Mathematics MEL4E1 Mathematics for Work and Everyday Life

10 MHF4U1 Advanced Functions This is a university course that is required for calculus. This course extends students’ experience with functions. It is strongly recommended that students taking this course have 70% in 11U as their prerequisite. Most students with the 12 college prerequisite struggle in this course. Topics include polynomial functions, rational functions, exponential functions, logarithmic functions, trigonometric functions and combinations of functions. This course is suitable for anyone with a love for mathematics and natural ability in mathematics. Good work habits are essential to be successful.

11 MCV4U1 Calculus and Vectors This course builds on students’ previous experience with functions and their developing understanding of rates of change. This course is intended for students who choose to pursue careers in fields such as science, engineering, economics, and some areas of business. Be sure to check your post-secondary destination requirements.

12 MCT4C1 Mathematics for College Technology This course enables students to extend their knowledge of functions. This course prepares students for a variety of college technology programs. The prerequisite is 11M math or 11U math.

13 MAP4C1 Foundations for College Mathematics This course enables students to broaden their understanding of real-world applications of mathematics. This course prepares students for college programs in areas such as business, health sciences, and human services, and for certain trades. The prerequisite for this course is 11C or 11M mathematics.

14 MEL4E1 Mathematics for Work and Everyday Life This course focuses on the application of mathematics to daily life and the workplace. Mathematics as related to housing costs, budgets, and measurement and geometry are investigated. The prerequisite for this course is 11 Workplace mathematics.

15 MDM4U1 Mathematics of Data Management This course broadens students’ understanding of mathematics as it relates to managing data. Students investigate statistical methods and apply these skills to a major research project. Students planning to enter university programs in business, the social sciences and the humanities will find this course of particular interest. The prerequisite for this course is 11U math or 11M math.
