ACADEMIC COURSE SCHEDULE Creating a Lab Section of a Lec/Lab Course Using the SSASECT Schedule Form

Welcome... Purpose: Faculty will learn how to create a lab section of a lecture/lab course using SSASECT. Audience: Academic Deans, Department Heads, Coordinators of Instructional Activities, Program Coordinators, and Division Secretaries Instructional Time: 10-15 minutes Assumptions: General navigation knowledge of Banner

Creating the Lab in a Lec/Lab Course 1. Open the Schedule form by typing SSASECT in the Go box of the Banner Main menu and press the key on the keyboard. 2. Type the term code in the Term field. 3. Navigate to the Course Ref. Number (CRN) field and type ADD. 4. Click the Next Block icon on the toolbar to move the cursor to the first information block of the form. 5. Select the drop-down arrow for the Subject. Select the View Existing Courses link to display the Existing courses. Click on the course that you want to work with and select the OK option. 6. Select the drop-down arrow for the Section. 7. This will take you to the search form SSASECQ. 8. Type the subject and course codes for the section you are building in their respective fields. 9. Press the Execute Query icon on the tool bar. The results of your query displays. 10. Scroll down the list to view the last Section used. Exit the form and key the next available section number into the Section field.

11. Select the drop-down arrow for the Campus. Click on the correct campus code and select the OK option. 12. Select the drop-down arrow for the Status. Click on the correct status code and select the OK option. 13. Select the drop-down arrow for the Schedule Type. Click on the correct schedule type (LAB) and select the OK option. 14. Select the drop-down arrow for the Instructional Method. Click on the correct instructional method and select the OK option. 15. Key the appropriate Integration Partner. As of now, the Integration Partner will always be coded as “01”. 16. Select the drop-down arrow for the Grade Mode. Click on the correct grade mode and select the OK option. 17. Select the drop-down arrow for the Session. Click on the correct session code and select the OK option. 18. Select the drop-down arrow for the Part of Term. Click on the correct part of time and select the OK option. Key “0” in the Credit Hours field. Creating the Lab in a Lec/Lab Course

19. Key “0” in the Billing Hours field. 20. Key “0” for the Lecture contact hours. 21. Key the defined Lab contact hours for the Course. (The Contact Hours field will auto populate). 22. When adding Lec/Lab sections, you must add the link identifiers on both SSASECT and SSADETL. 23. In the Link Identifier Field, key a “B” for a lab section. 24. Click on the Gradable field to uncheck the flag. (Note: Lab courses do not get graded unless they are stand-alone labs.) 25. Click the Save icon on the toolbar. 26. Under the Options Menu, select Course Section Detail (SSADETL). 27. Click the Next Block icon on the toolbar to move the cursor to the first information block of the form. 28. In the first Link Connector field, key an “A”. 29. Click the Save icon on the toolbar. When you are finished, click the Exit iconon the toolbar. 30. This will return you to the SSASECT form. When you are finished, click the Exit icon on the toolbar. (Note: A and B are the standard Lec/Lab combinations. If you want to create a specific lecture for a specific lab, use C and D, E and F, etc. Be sure to use these combinations once so that the sections will only be linked to their partner section.)
