7 Multiplication Extention on own notes

8 Multiplying Mixed Numbers
YOU HAVE TO MAKE BOTH FRACTIONS INTO IMPROPER FRACTIONS

9 To write a mixed number as an improper fraction, start with the whole number, multiply by the denominator, and add the numerator. Use the same denominator. Remember! 1 5 __ 1 • 5 + 1 5 _________ 6 5 __ 1 = =

10 Let’s Try Together! • 1 1 4 __ 1 3 __ 1 4 __ 3
Write as an improper fraction = 4 3 __ 1 1 • 4 4 • 3 _____ Multiply numerators. Multiply denominators. 4 12 __ 1 3 __ Write the answer in simplest form.

“Flip” (find the Reciprocal) the second fraction Change problem to multiplication Reduce diagonally if possible Multiply Numerator Multiply Denominator

18 Just Watch ÷ 7 8 7 __ 8 7 __ Rewrite as multiplication using the
reciprocal of 7, 1 7 __ 8 7 __ 1 7 __ ÷ 7 = • 8 • 1 7 • 7 ____ = Multiply by the reciprocal. 8 49 __ = The answer is in simplest form.
