Diagnostic Image Compendium Instructions Choose an Anatomical System, 1 of the 11 Choose a topic within your chosen system, something fascinating to you Compile a set of images from a variety of diagnostic imaging techniques Include normal vs pathological ….or Include normal vs pathological vs pre & post treatment ….or include a development series, normal vs degenerative ….or include normal vs traumatized …or normal vs diseased vs treated …or undeveloped through developed Limit your series to approximately 12 slides Follow the examples in the template, Image, description and reference on each slide Introduction and Summary 1 slide each References 1-2 slides Layout and design are your choice This is an individual assignment

Hu Skull Sagittal Section MRI This image is a midsagittal MRI section through the skull. MRI is widely used today and has become a valuable as a clinical imaging too. It permits sections to be taken through structures at any angle and, in contrast to CT, soft tissue details are also visible. On this section note the midline structures of the brain. The large 'C' shaped structure is the corpus callosum (1). This large comma shaped structure contains nerve fibres which link together matching areas from the left and right cerebral cortex of the brain. Thus this structure is the largest commissure. Below the corpus, identify the lateral ventricle (2). This forms part of the chamber system of the brain through which cerebrospinal fluid circulates (CSF). CSF is normally a clear substance which circulates through four large cavities within the cerebral hemispheres and brain stem called ventricles. The lateral ventricles are within each cerebral hemisphere and are linked to the third ventricle, which lies in the mid- line, by the interventricular foramen. It may become blood stained, for example following head injury. The gyral patterns of the cerebral cortex should also be observed. Immediately superior to the corpus callosum is the cingulate gyrus (3). Below the cortex and posterior to the brain stem is the cerebellum (4). This structure has a characteristic appearance on MRI. The pons (5) is the part of the brainstem which links the part of the forebrain called the diencephalon to the hindbrain. The medulla forms part of the hind brain (6) and is in turn connected to the cervical part of the spinal cord (7). http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.liv.ac.uk/HumanAnatomy/phd/mbchb/stroke/images/mri 1.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.liv.ac.uk/HumanAnatomy/phd/mbchb/stroke/mri1.html&usg=__- z8OikSYYOlkLRUt_OoOUI8hMJs=&h=462&w=424&sz=18&hl=en&start=1&um=1&tbnid=iEz2reXOGNWC- M:&tbnh=128&tbnw=117&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dskull%2Bmri%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1W1GGIE_en%26s a%3DG%26um%3D1http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.liv.ac.uk/HumanAnatomy/phd/mbchb/stroke/images/mri 1.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.liv.ac.uk/HumanAnatomy/phd/mbchb/stroke/mri1.html&usg=__- z8OikSYYOlkLRUt_OoOUI8hMJs=&h=462&w=424&sz=18&hl=en&start=1&um=1&tbnid=iEz2reXOGNWC- M:&tbnh=128&tbnw=117&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dskull%2Bmri%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1W1GGIE_en%26s a%3DG%26um%3D1

Human Skull Autistic CT Scan This is the top of Peter's skull from the CT Scan. As you can see there is no suture down the middle of his skull. The suture you see running from left to right is the coronal suture that runs from right in front of one ear to the other. The sagittal should run from the middle of that suture to the back of the skull but it's not present. If it were, it would have the same zig- zagged appearance as the coronal suture. This is a side/rear view of Peter's skull. As you can see, about where the ear is there should be a suture but, again, there isn't one. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_eKG- wrclS54/R2Fw9kQROkI/AAAAAAAAAAM/PjLpsiBfKm4/s320/CT%2BScan%2BPeter.jpg&i mgrefurl=http://copingwithautism.blogspot.com/2007/12/peters-ct- scan.html&usg=__RuwDOAM1mlwDAy5ue0bTgtoB8is=&h=320&w=320&sz=9&hl=en&sta rt=44&tbnid=UyRxMEBymqX5wM:&tbnh=118&tbnw=118&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dhuman %2Bskull%2Bcat%2Bscan%26gbv%3D2%26ndsp%3D20%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26 start%3D40
