Tenleytown Main Street Thanks to Councilmember Cheh, the District’s 2016 budget includes start-up funding for two new Main Street programs, Tenleytown and Van Ness. The Main Street Program was created in 1980 by National Trust for Historic Preservation to help communities preserve and revitalize their commercial districts. There are more than 2,000 Main Street programs which rehabilitate older commercial districts and work to attract new investment, jobs and businesses. Currently, eight Main Street programs in DC: Barracks Row; Congress Heights; Deanwood Heights; Dupont Circle; H Street; North Capitol; Shaw; and Rhode Island Avenue.

Main Street Four Point Approach® Like all Main Streets Programs, Tenleytown Main Street will be based on the Main Street Four Point Approach® Organization. Build partnerships among commercial and community stakeholders to manage and advocate for Tenleytown Main Street. Promotion. Tell the story of Tenleytown Main Street, its architecture, history and culture to shoppers, investors and potential business and property owners. Design. Foster an inviting environment for shoppers, workers and visitors with signage, landscaping, art and public spaces. Economic Restructuring. Strengthen Tenleytown’s existing economic assets while diversifying its economic base. Create a balanced commercial mix and attract new businesses that the market can support.
