The North should treat the South as “brothers,” all equal. WWGD. The South should pay off all the war debt (raise taxes maybe). Diplomatically – be a good sport. The South should have Congressman – but not as many as before. Keep Congress the same as before the war. No southern congressmen. Slavery ends immediately, all men are equal. Create programs to help slaves get on their feet. North can help rebuild the South. The Union should not help rebuild the South. Stricter laws/restrictions for the South. Same laws in North and South. Allow some slavery to exist in agricultural based states. Reduce amounts of currency to one. First period: How should the Union deal with allowing the South back into the US? Focus on slavery, politics, and money.
