INTRODUCTION According to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, bullying is both verbal and physical abuse. It is a common event and happens everywhere in every type of school. Nearly half of students experience some type of bullying in their school years, and nearly 10% are bullied on a regular basis. Males tend to be more physical towards their victims, while females bully more verbally, usually towards other females.

Findings: Site 1 According to the website “A Bullying Prevention Program” bullying is a persistent problem that can have many consequences for students. Research has shown that when schools apply bullying prevention programs into practice, it lessens the problem of bullying.
7
Findings: Site 1 It is important for the whole school community to take part in these preventions. Teachers, administration, school nurses, bus drivers, etc. It is also essential for these programs to not only address the students, but the culture of the school.

Findings: Site 2 Cyber bullying has also become a huge problem for students. It is important for children and adolescents to learn how to use the computer and other technology safely. Cyber bullying is dangerous because it follows individuals into their homes and private lives, outside of school hours.
10
Tips for Children to Follow to Prevent Cyber Bullying Never give out your name, address, phone number, school name or password online. It is a good idea to use a nickname. Do not give out a photo of yourself. Don’t accept emails or open files from people you do not know. Remember it might not just be people your own age in a chat room. Stick to public areas in chat rooms and get out if you feel uncomfortable. Think carefully about what you write; don’t leave yourself open to bullying. Respect other people-online and off. Don’t spread rumors about people or share their secrets, including their phone numbers and passwords. If someone insults you online or by phone, stay calm and ignore them.
11
Findings: Site 3 According to the website “Solution Tree” there are many references to help school faculty on bullying and prevention for school violence. Two important books mentioned are The Bullying Prevention Handbook and Peacemakers: A Violence Prevention Program Leader’s Guide.

The Bullying Prevention Handbook This book presents effective teaching and counseling models to help you prevent and reduce bullying. Peacemakers: A Violence Prevention Programs Leader’s Guide This book combines best practices from psychology and values education into experiences that will help you prevent youth violence and improve interpersonal behavior. This can be implemented in schools, as well as in youth groups, after-school programs, and residential treatment programs.

17
Some Facts About Bullying Bullying is the most common form of violence in our society; between 15% and 30% of students are bullies or victims. Since 1992, there have been 250 violent deaths in schools that involved multiple victims. In virtually every school shooting, bullying has been a factor. 25% of teachers see nothing wrong with bullying or putdowns and consequently intervene in only 4% of bullying incidents.
18
Conclusion With the help of technology, there is an abundance of remarkable and useful websites out there to help the schools with prevention of bullying. Luckily for guidance counselors and other school professionals, there is great material online to help with implementing the correct programs within the schools to try and put an end to bullying.
