2  Totalitarian- An autocratic leader who has total control of his nation.  A totalitarian uses tricks [propaganda] to get people to believe in their ideas, but mostly use terror and violence to force obedience and crush anyone who opposes them.

5 Stalin & Money Command economy- A system where the government makes all economic decisions. Stalin’s 5 year plan (1928-1933)- wanted to “catch up with the advanced countries” by advancing in iron, steel, coal and oil. limiting goods, led to a shortage of food, shelter, and clothing Agricultural Revolution- replaced farmers with machines causing many to lose jobs. used violence to force peasants to work, peasants resisted and 5- 10 million were killed.

6 Total Control/ Total Power Secret police- - monitored telephone lines and read mail. - took people from their homes at night and sent them to forced labor camps. -executed “traitors” Great Purge( campaign of terror)- - “eliminated” people who threatened Stalin’s power. -thousands of Bolsheviks were executed. Indoctrination and Propaganda- - newspapers and radios to censored to glorify communism - All religion outlawed, cold only worship Stalin

7 Daily Life Under Stalin Women: -won equal rights during Bolshevik Revolution -were able to work in factories - had to work AND remain responsible for housework and childcare. Education: -Every child received education -Part of education was Stalin’s Propaganda (indoctrination of Stalin as God-like) -Literacy in the USSR was nearly 100%
