4 AVID: 30 Years of Success approximately 400,000 students Grades 4-12 16 countries 45 states 4,500 schools

5 An AVID Student is NOT  looking for a free ride  usually in trouble for poor choices  frequently missing homework  often tardy or absent AVID is designed to support the motivated, academically successful student in reaching the next level of academic achievement.

6 STUDENTS—what to know AVID’s goal is to support your desire to succeed Your active participation is essential AVID is designed to challenge you and push you academically

7 Are we succeeding? Currently, we have 95 students enrolled in AVID at HHS These students are successful and the majority are on their way to attending college.

8 AVID Students Must: attend an AVID elective class enroll in one or more advanced academic class maintain satisfactory citizenship, grades and attendance in all classes maintain the AVID binder with assignment/grade record sheets and daily notes in all classes complete all homework assignments and commit to studying every night

9 AVID Application Process Get an application from the counseling office or your teacher. Return completed application to Counseling Center. Make sure you have spoken to the teachers from whom you requested the recommendations. Come to an interview with the AVID Committee. Grades, attendance, SOLS, and discipline will be considered.

10 AVID DUE DATES Application is due April 30 th Interviews will begin the week of May 5 th. You will know if you are accepted by May 20 th. Please see Mr. Austin, Ms. Rebhun, Mr. Kirwan, Ms. Hall, Ms. S. Wilson, Mr. Rittenhouse, Ms. Mendez, and Ms. Vass with questions.
