Low Earth Orbit The shuttle orbits orbits from 100 to 300 miles above earths orbits The shuttle orbits around the earth in 90 minutes. The radius of the earth is 4,000 miles. A object in low earth orbit is in an elliptical orbit.

How the shuttle stays in orbit If a space craft is given enough speed it will stay in orbit. The forward motion of a shuttle its slow enough gravity causes its flight path to curve downwards.
