4 Family Meals Daily routine and lifestyle will affect the time of day at which meals are eaten, where they are eaten and how much time is taken to eat them. Age – young children may need to eat earlier in the evening, teenagers may be rushing out to meet friends. Work – shift work or part-time jobs could also affect meal times. 5 How Religious Beliefs Influence Eating Habits Some religions have strict food laws: Jews do not eat pork. Muslims do not eat pork. Hindus do not eat meat from a cow. Mormons do not drink tea or coffee. Religious festivals are often celebrated by eating certain foods – Christmas, Easter, Shrove Tuesday, Hannukah.
