Slide 2 Standard Grade Computing What is multimedia? The presentation of information by a computer using graphics, animation, sound and text. What is a Presentation Package? The presentation of information by a computer using graphics, animation, sound and text. A presentation package allows the user to create a series of pages or slides which can include sound, video, text and graphics.

Slide 3 Standard Grade Computing Creating a Presentation Slides are displayed one after the other, in order, this is called linear linkage of slides. The presentation elements – text, graphics, audio and video are gathered and then assembled. Text may be entered at the keyboard or imported from a word processing package. Graphics may be imported from a Clip Art image library or from a graphics package.

Slide 4 Standard Grade Computing Creating a Presentation Audio may be added from a sound library or input using a microphone. Video images may be imported from a digital video camera and edited using a suitable application. Non-linear editing is where clips may be arranged in any order, not just the order in which they were filmed.

Slide 5 Standard Grade Computing Creating a Presentation Digital video takes up a large quantity of backing storage space. Image capture involves using a digital camera or scanner. Hyperlinks are links from a slide to web pages, other documents or programs. e.g http://www.bbc.co.uk http://www.bbc.co.uk Hyperlinks are non-linear, that is, they do not go to the next slide in sequence.

Slide 6 Standard Grade Computing Creating a Presentation Transition is the name given to the effect shown on the screen when moving between slides. Animation is the way in which elements of a presentation may be programmed to move around the screen. The slide master is a slide which controls the layout of other slides in the presentation.

Slide 7 Standard Grade Computing Creating a Presentation A template is a ready made up document containing guides or placeholders which can accept objects such as text or graphics. A wizard or assistant is a program which leads the user step by step through the creation of a document.

Slide 8 Standard Grade Computing Creating a Presentation Presentations are usually delivered using a multimedia projector. An interactive whiteboard allows a user to interact with the presentation. Presentations may be set up to run automatically in a kiosk.
