What is PowerPoint? a complete presentation graphics package gives you everything you need to produce a professional-looking presentation offers word processing, outlining, drawing, graphing, and presentation management tools- all designed to be easy to use and learn

What can you do in PowerPoint? the presentation is made up of a series of slides in addition to slides, you can print audience handouts, outlines, and speaker's notes can format all the slides in a presentation using the powerful Slide Master can import what you have created in other Microsoft products, such as Word and Excel into any of your slides

PowerPoint Views PowerPoint has various views: –Normal –Slide Master –Reading View –Slide Sorter –Notes Master –Handout Master

PowerPoint Views You can change the views by clicking on the View tab to display the choices or the tiny icons on the bottom right of the screen

CREATING SLIDES To start creating slides: open PowerPoint A Blank Presentation will appear with a title slide To add a new slide click on the New Slide icon in the Home tab

TO ADD A DESIGN TEMPLATE NOTE: Design Templates are preformatted slide designs that contain colours and graphics to make your presentation consistent and attractive. Go to the Design Tab - Various themes of design will be displayed Click on the one you like best

ANIMATIONS Animations add interest to your PowerPoint To add an animation Click on the Animations tab Choose the section (it has to be a picture or text box) you want to add the animation to and choose your desired animation You can customize the timing of the animation as well NOTE: You can add animation effects to individual parts of a slide or an entire slide.

Transitions Transitions are special effects used to introduce a slide To add a transition click on the Transitions tab You can add sound, change the timing You can add the same transition to all slides or custom each slide

PRESENTATION TIPS… Minimize (do not use a lot of words) the amount of text on a slide or it is difficult for the audience to pick out what is important Font sizes should be between 22 and 36 points for readability. Use a simple and plain font (2 or 3 fonts in total). Avoid using too many colours, which can make a presentation hard to read. Try to choose a design template which best suites the subject matter.

PRESENTATION TIPS…(Cont’d) A professional presentation must have NO spelling errors. Using too many transitions or animations distracts from the information (audience will focus only on transitions or animations, and devote little attention to the presentation content). Use clip art, animation, video, and audio to enhance the message.
