Standard Grade Physical Education Creativity

Learning Outcomes By the end of this lesson you will; Be aware of the importance of creativity in activities Be able to give examples of creativity in different activities

Creativity Creativity is the ability to create or react to a situation in a unique and unusual way In most activities you need creativity to devise solutions to problems using your imagination to develop ideas

Activities which are ‘subjective’, tend to be based around creativity more than ‘objective’ activities. Activities such as; Dance and Gymnastics require that the performer creates their own routine or movements in order to try and win the competition. These activities have features in common.

In gymnastics creativity is used in floor events when we use imagination and flair to ensure that space is used effectively by linking movementsskills together to make your performance unique In subjective activities points can be gained for showing creativity.

In team games, using imagination and creative flair can create attacking advantages and create uncertainty in those who are trying to mark you.

Creativity In objective activities creativity can help gain an advantage over an opponent but does not award points. Example.…Cruyff turn

Creativity In this turn, the attacker quickly drags the ball back, catches the defender unaware and has TIME to cross the ball without pressure. The ‘Cruyff Turn’, in football, can help you gain an ATTACKING advantage and wrong foot an opponent.

Task 1 – Credit Choose one activity with a subjective scoring system. Describe how you worked creatively to improve the overall quality of your performance Activity: Gymnastics (floor routine) Explanation: In my floor routine, I had three different cartwheels. To begin with, they were all the same speed, leading with my left hand on each one. I decided I could add to the quality of my routine by varying the cartwheels. for a start, I performed one of them leading with the right hand. Then I varied the speed – I made one quite slow, one quite quick from a standing start and one with one hand from a run up.

Task 2: Choose one activity with an objective scoring system. Describe how you worked creatively to gain an Advantage and win. Activity: Volleyball Explanation: Our opponents were finding it straightforward to predict from where our spike attacks were coming. We decided that we would add more variety to our play by asking our setter to vary the set to unsettle the other team.
