PPE: Face, Head, Foot, and Hand The participant will better understand the various types of PPE and their importance as laid out by OSHA.

General Requirements 29 CFR 1910.132 n PPE must be provided, used, and maintained n PPE must be adequate n all PPE must be of safe design and construction n employer must assess the workplace to determine hazards n damaged or defective equipment must not be used. n Employers must provide training

Eye and Face Protection 29 CFR 1910.133 n ANSI Z87.1-1989 n particular care should be taken in fitting devices for eye protection

Head Protection 29 CFR 1910.135 n class A helmets – impact and penetration resistant – electrical protection (2,200 volt) n class B helmets – impact and penetration resistant – electrical protection (20,000 volt) n class C helmets – impact and penetration resistant – no electrical protection

Foot Protection 29 CFR 1910.136 n foot protection must comply with ANSI Z41-1991 n safety shoes and boots must provide both impact and compression protection n special foot protection may be necessary on a waste site

Hand Protection 29 CFR 1910.138 n selection must be based on evaluation of the performance characteristics in relationship to required tasks n must select the most appropriate glove for a particular task n glove material must be determined compatible with chemical hazards present
