What is Sport & Exercise Nutrition? Application of the science of nutrition to promote exercise and sport performance The effects of diet and dietary components on the performance of an individual. How exercise affects the metabolism of nutrients in the body The bodys requirement for nutrients

Why is it Important? Dietary intake affects health, body mass and body composition Dietary intake affects performance and recovery from exercise An optimum diet can help maximise sport performance

Whats Involved? Understand the physiology and biochemistry of different types of exercise and the role nutrition has in effecting these processes. Knowledge and structure of the sports world. Knowledge of the lifestyle, beliefs and ambitions of sports. persons and to be able to apply that knowledge to individual circumstances. Knowledge of usefulness/harmfulness of sports foods.

Entry Requirements for Dietetics 2-3 A level passes (or Scottish or Irish equivalent) Must include chemistry + 1 other science Access + BTEC – science based courses How to Qualify 4 years Honours Degreeor 2 year Post Graduate Course with an appropriate 1 st degree
