Elements of a Map Map Scale: a ratio which compares a measurement on a map to the actual distance between locations identified on the map

Writing Latitude and Longitude Absolute Location: coordinates (39N,180E) as example Latitude is first always, longitude is second NS are Latitude (north/south of Equator) E/W are Longitude (East/West of Prime Meridian)

Other Information Measured in Degrees, Minutes, Seconds DMS GPS uses decimals 360 degrees total – longitude (180W, 180E) 180 degrees total – latitude (90N, 90S)

Time Zones GMT = Greenwich Mean Time –Based on the time at the Prime Meridian –Every time zone builds out from there –Central Time Zone is -6 from GMT Based on 15 degree increments 15 X 24 hr = 360 degrees
