History of the Tablet 1989 – GridPad is first released.
considered the first Tablet Computer, it inspires Jeff Hawkins to create the Palm platform. 1992 – Apple releases the Newton, coins the phrase “PDA”. 1996 – USRobotics releases the Pilot running Palm OS, name later changed to Palm Pilot. 1996 – Microsoft Releases Windows CE 1.0 Microsoft’s first OS for mobile devices. 2000 – HP Releases the iPaq Pocket PC “Pocket PC” comes from Windows CE 3.0 Pocket PC Edition iPaq product line becomes the longest running and highest selling PDAs of all time. 2007 – Apple relases the iPhone, its first entry into mobile computing in over 14 years. 2010 – Apple releases the iPad, and the tablet age is born!
