Assessing the impact of Objective One on Creative Industry enterprises in Cornwall 2000-2006

Objective One Investment £43m was invested in the Creative Industries in Cornwall £33m was invested in capital projects – including £30m to the Tremough Campus for University College Falmouth £9.88m was invested in business and skills support programmes stimulated the sector to generate an estimated £104m extra income 350 beneficiary companies and 2,500 individual beneficiaries

Big picture findings – changes in the sector GVA up 34% between 2000-2004, compared with 7% nationally GVA per head £28,540 Turnover grew from £326 million to £421 million between 2000 and 2004 – 29% growth (ABI statistics)

Big picture findings - markets 30% of Creative Industry businesses earn 100% of their income from Cornwall 42% earn at least half of their income from outside Cornwall 10% export outside the UK

Big picture findings – beneficiary profile 53% over 36 years old & only 5% under 25 75%+ of beneficiaries located in the area bounded by Penzance, St Ives, Truro and Falmouth Two thirds of beneficiaries were women

Perceived changes in the sector Profile and visibility of CIs increased inside and outside Cornwall Quantity of work and people engaged in the work – simply more happening Confidence, ambitions and aspirations are higher Greater connectedness and coherence as a sector Greater professionalism That prosperity had not increased in real terms

Self-perceptions The main reasons for increased income were identified as: Networking Marketing Funding/finance But the highest priorities for the future were: Skills & Competencies Products & Services
