3 TEKS 117.2 Art, Kindergarten (b) Knowledge and Skills 1) Perception. The student develops and organizes ideas from the environment. The student is expected to: A) glean information from the environment, using the five senses, and B) identify colors, textures, forms, and subjects in the environment

4 Learning Objectives Students will be able to identify the primary colors,the secondary colors, and the intermediate colors. Students will have an understanding of a simple color wheel. Students will understand what colors make other colors when mixed. Students will understand why colors are important.

5 Unit Questions What are the primary colors? What does a color wheel do? What are the secondary colors? What happens when you mix two colors? What two colors make orange? What two colors make green? What two colors make purple?

6 Essential Questions Why are colors important? What is your favorite color? – Why? What color do you like the least? – Why? If you could create a color what would it look like? – What would you name it?

7 Did You Know? Yellow gets your attention faster than any other color – It is a Federal Law to make school buses yellow so that people can see them People often use color to describe things – The apple is red Color is important for safety – A traffic light turns red when you need to stop

8 Color Wheel

9 Activities What color is this?! – Students will look at a worksheet and color objects the color they should be. Primary, secondary, and intermediate colors are separate worksheets. Matching color game – Students will match colors with their corresponding names on crayon printouts. Create a color wheel – Students will make their own color wheel with the primary, secondary, and intermediate colors. Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? – After reading the book Brown Bear, Brown Bear students will go on a color hunt around the classroom and find different objects with a certain color to check off their color hunt list. Mixing paint – Students will use paint to mix the primary colors and create the secondary colors.
