October 14, 2009 Express Seed + Syngenta Flowers Garden Mums Summit at Lucas Greenhouses

The key varieties everyone should know

3 The Best of the Best DO ● Focus on the Recommended charts for specific crops ● Use the Platinum varieties ● Add new varieties at least at a small level DO NOT ● Do not use a “Top Selling” list or “Sub” list to select varieties ● Try to avoid the Silver varieties ● Do not just book the same thing every year because everything was ok An often asked question….

4 How does a “Family” differ from a “Group” Family ● Collection of color sports from an original seedling variety ● Variety name includes the original seedling name ● Very reliable to flower together with similar plant size in all crops and all regions Group ● Collection of seedlings or sports and seedlings that do not all come from one original plant ● Variety names will not have an “easy-to-see” association ● May be similar for some crops but not all ● Likely to see differences from year to year in fall crops

5 Key Families and other Families of Interest ● Cheryl – WH (2), YL (2), PK (3), OR, and RD ● Victoria – YL (?), PK, CO (2), OR ● Ursula - YL, PK, CO (2), OR (2) ● Jacqueline – WH, YL, PK, PKTT, COTT, ORTT ● Gigi – WH, GD, PK – all two-tone ● Stacy - PK, OR – both two-tone ● Barbie - PK, BZ
