Four countries from Brittan (Scotland, Wales, England and Ireland) immigrated to Canada because they wanted to explore new lands and they wanted to get away from the great crowds and cramped spaces in their home countries. People also immigrated to Canada because they were curious and adventures. The population in these countries was growing and the need more space for housing. Between 1815 and 1850 many British immigrants arrived in Canada as they wanted to escape the poverty and famine in Ireland and Scotland. More Immigrants came to Canada between 1840 and 1860. These immigrants were Black Americans that came secretly to Canada to run away from slavery in the American South (U.S.A.) The Gold Rush of 1858-1862 and the building of the Canadian Pacific Railroad attracted many Chinese, American, and Europeans who were looking for work and adventure.

The process by which large numbers of people become concentrate in one area forming cities (definition) Urban population growth was because buildings and business were made which provides more jobs for other people. Canadians were moving from rural areas into larger cities because people saw a limited future for themselves in agriculture mainly once sowing and harvesting became more mechanized. They believed city life would offer them better opportunities and more freedom. Also contributing to urbanization was that lots of immigrants from Brittan (England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales) the United States, Northern Europe (France, Holland, Germany, Denmark, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland) and Eastern Europe (Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Russia, Ukraine, Baltic States).

Urbanization and immigration caused dense cities and the increase of garbage. When new cities were made the had to plow out the land and cover it with cement destroying the nature (trees, grass, flowers etc.) and when the trees are plowed down it cuts down on the amount of plants that provide us with oxygen which would lead to people dyeing. The buildings that come from the urbanization would pollute the environment a lot they would produce a lot of garbage and the smoke from the buildings would also go into the earth (Ex. Car Manufacture, Power Plant ). Also with more immigrants they would need to use up more land for the cities and also it would cause farmers to have to work and produce more because of all the extra mouths to feed.
6
Immigration and Urbanization resulted in todays environment problems because when the cities grew they took up more land destroying the environment which means there is less plants to provide use with oxygen. Then with the immigration it means there is more people to feed so the farmers are going to need to take up more land to plant foods. Also urbanization took up more space land wise and immigration took up more space in the city which would force more people to go homles because not everyone will be able to afford there homes.

Even in the early 1900’s people threw their garbage and sewage into rivers and lakes Urbanization and immigration caused dense cities and the increase of garbage A positive act they did was to catch water in rain buckets This shows that they did positive things to conserve the environment Eventually they got boards of health that did not allow people to contaminate the water with garbage or sewage These laws are similar to todays laws that help protect the environment

How They Lived. Aboriginals No technology When they hunted they used the entire animal (fur for clothes, meat for food) Everything was made from nature Saved space with smaller houses Europeans Technology (Guns) They wasted some parts of animals they would kill When they were done with something they would throw it away Wasted space with big houses

The Aboriginals were better stewards of the earth espacilly compared to the Europeans. The Aboriginals would use every part of animals that they would kill (fur-clothes, meat-food) they would also use the bones to make their tools (hammers they would use bones for the handle). The Europeans would use the animals for some meat then just throw it out they wouldn’t use the bones or the fur like the Aboriginals. Also the Aboriginals would use nature to live by using plants and trees to build houses but the Europeans would destroy the nature and lay over it with concret and then build buildings which would produce garbage and will destroy our environment. That’s why aboriginals ae better stewards of the earth. Stewards of the Earth

Inventions that polluted the earth The car was one of the inventions that polluted the environment was the car the fumes that come from the gas go up into the air that we breath in. Then the street car was introduced and helped out our environment because it ran on electricity instead of gas and it could hold more people so there would be less vehicles on the road.
