Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health Partner to Montebello Unified School District

What is our role in LA County? DMH is the local mental health plan in Los Angeles County Serves approximately 1 million residents/year Provides mental health services to all ages, from infants through old age Contracts with other mental health agencies to provide mental health services and monitors service provision

What is our role for MUSD? We have at least 8 providers providing mental health services to Medi-cal eligible children in approximately 27 MUSD schools The Safe Schools/Healthy Schools grant will increase the numbers of at-risk or seriously emotionally disturbed students who can be treated by mental health All current MUSD providers, including 4 recently added providers, will be part of the grant’s developing vision for mental health services

What is our role for MUSD? DMH will provide consultation on policies and procedures for services provided under the grant We will work with MUSD’s Mental Health Liaison to integrate the services into the schools We will collaborate with the Liaison to eliminate any barriers to efficient service delivery

What services does DMH provide? Outpatient therapy – individual, family, and group Medication Support Crisis Intervention CALWORKS School-based mental health Intensive programs, some are 24/7

Intensive Programs Have Specific Criteria Wraparound Systems of Care Full Service Partnerships Specialized Foster Care TBS – Therapeutic Behavioral Services

DMH Emergency Outreach Bureau PMRT – Psychiatric Mobile Response Team Has a mandate to serve all school children in Los Angeles County, but particularly for all DCFS and Probation youth Will come out to evaluate a client in a crisis and will hospitalize if necessary During clinic hours (8:00a-5:00p) call Service Area team. SA7 562/467-0209. SA3 626/258-2004/05. After hours call ACCESS 800/854-7771

DMH Emergency Outreach Bureau MEU/SMART – Mental Evaluation Unit and System- wide Mental Assessment Response Team To reduce potential for violence during police contacts with people with severe mental illness MEU offers referral info to patrol units to help provide linkage to services as well as dispatching SMART teams to scene SMART provides intervention, referral or placement for mentally ill person SMART team consists of one police officer and one DMH clinician
