5 From the History of Edinburgh
Edinburgh has been the capital of Scotland since the 15th century. The origins of «Edinburgh» are lost in the very distant past. Old Edinburgh was a long, narrow town, later walled, with houses jumbled together down a single main street. It became a Royal burgh in 1329.

The new town was built in the late 18th century. Edinburgh is a city where the historic past lives side by side with the present, for centuries the home of Scottish Kings and Queens.
