News on Dues Capital District Circle K International Membership Development & Education Committee October 2014

Happy Kiwanis New Year! It’s that time of year again…time to pay dues! Many of you may be wondering, “Why do we have to pay dues? Are we paying to do volunteer work?” Not exactly…

Paying to Do Community Service??? It is important to remember that you are not paying to do community service; you are paying to be a part of a wonderful organization that provide numerous opportunities and benefits beyond service projects. Paying dues allows for you to get a richer club experience, making the leadership and fellowship aspects of CKI possible!

Dues Breakdown International: $300- $600 per club (depending on the size and type of school) District: $10/member Club: varies by club

International Dues go towards… 32% Leadership training.– GATC, SLP Administrators Conference 23% Travel/visits.– Visits from I-Board to districts, board travel to board meetings and Conventions 16% Member services.– Pins, cards 16% Marketing & promotion.– Magazines, marketing materials, public relations and promotional materials for clubs 10% Administrative.– Telephone, office supplies, legal fees, in-house printing 3% Conventions.– Awards, parliamentarian, program events

District Dues go towards… Insurance against injury at all CKI service projects Networking with members of Kiwanis Scholarship opportunities Eligibility to attend district and international conferences Membership materials, district and international magazines And many more!

Club Dues go towards… This varies by club, but many clubs use club dues to pay for: – Materials for in-house service projects and socials – Club T-Shirts – Gas – Etc. Ask your club if you are curious about what your club dues are going towards.

Bottom Line: Your dues ultimately come back to you! It may seem annoying and unnecessary to pay to be in a club, but in reality you are paying for many of the things that can make your CKI experience so amazing! You help your club, the district, and the international organization continue to run successfully and provide all members with a positive, rewarding experience.
