Standards Distinguish between the intended benefits and the unintended consequences of a new technology. Differentiate between adaptive and assistive bioengineered products (e.g., food, biofuels, medicines, integrated pest management).
4
Essential Questions to ponder… What societal needs have led to the creation of certain technologies? What are the intended benefits and unintended consequences of new technologies? Are we able to describe, explain & develop adaptive & assistive bioengineered products?
5
After testing, improve your design. Make note of the improvements your group made? What happened when you re-tested? Did you have to improve again? If so, how did you improve?
6
Begin your persuasive essay… 1.Your argumentative essay must show evidence as to why people in a certain area of the world need your invention and evidence that your invention will work. 2.Base your paper on scientific research--use the research that you retrieved from my portaportal, articles, and the notes from your STEM notebook that you took when testing your prototype. 3.Claim: There are groups of people in the world suffering from clean water depletion. This invention would make clean water available for those areas of the world that are lacking. 4.Tips for writing a persuasive essay: a)Make your claim b)Support your claim with evidence from websites, articles, or videos c)An organized essay is a better essay- introduction, body, conclusion
7
As a group, plan your presentation. Your presentation must include: –Your research –Your working prototype –Your persuasive essay –A conclusion that describes what happened during your challenge—the good, the bad, & the ugly!

Use a Post-It Note to “tweet” about the following question: Is your water filtration system an example of assistive or adaptive engineering? Explain. Tweet a response…
