NHTS 2010 – Press Conference How were households selected?  18,000 households were randomly selected from Electoral Register to participate in the survey - 13% of households in Malta and Gozo  Sample stratified to achieve statistical representation at district level and proportionate to the size of each locality  Importance being given to ensure coverage of different household and family members to ensure that we capture all travel habits and requirements 3

NHTS 2010 – Press Conference Why should households participate?  Selected households will be representing others with similar socio-economic characteristics  This is their chance to contribute towards getting around faster, cleaner and safer  Participants will be granted a 10% discount on flights from Air Malta and will enter into a lottery draw for 2 out of 20 flights 4

NHTS 2010 – Press Conference What about confidentiality?  Responses will be completely anonymous  Each household was given a reference number and only PricewaterhouseCoopers has access to the personal information of participants  When responses are to be entered into the database by the data inputters a new entry number will be given to disassociate household information  No information that can identify any individual or household will be published as a result of the survey 5
