BLS Algorit hm Basic life support promotes adequate blood circulation in addition to breathing through a clear airway: Circulation: providing an adequate blood supply to tissue, especially critical organs, so as to deliver oxygen to all cells and remove metabolic waste, via the perfusion of blood throughout the body. Airway: the protection and maintenance of a clear passageway for gases (principally oxygen and carbon dioxide) to pass between the lungs and the atmosphere. Breathing: inflation and deflation of the lungs (respiration) via the airway Basic life support promotes adequate blood circulation in addition to breathing through a clear airway: Circulation: providing an adequate blood supply to tissue, especially critical organs, so as to deliver oxygen to all cells and remove metabolic waste, via the perfusion of blood throughout the body. asking loudly and shaking at the shoulders "Are you okay?“ and scan chest for breathing movement visually If no response call for help AVPU A=Allert V=Verbal P=Painfull U=Unresponse
7
chest compression at a rate of 100 compressions per minute for all age groups, allowing chest to recoil in between. For adults push up to 5 cm and for child up to 4 cm.
8
For infants up to 3 cm or 1/3 of the chest diameter antero- posteriorly. Keep counting aloud. After every 30 chest compressions give two rescue breaths in adult and child victim, Continue for five cycles or two minutes before re-assessing pulse
9
Airways For airways, this will include manually opening the patients airway (Head tilt/Chin lift or jaw thrust) or possible insertion of oral (Oropharyngeal airway) or nasal (Nasopharyngeal airway) adjuncts, to keep the airway unblocked (patent). For breathing, this may include artificial respiration, often assisted by emergency oxygen
10
Breating (Look-listen- feel)

Steps of DRS CABD Check for Danger Check for a Response Send for help C directs rescuers to perform 30 Compressions to patients who are unresponsive and not breathing normally, followed by 2 rescue breaths A directs rescuers to open the Airway B directs rescuers to check Breathing but no need to deliver rescue breaths D directs rescuers to attach an AED soon

13
If the ventilations are successful, assess for the presence of a pulse at the carotid artery. If a pulse is detected, then the patient should continue to receive artificial ventilation's at an appropriate rate and transported immediately
14
If you use the head-tilt/chin-lift method, be careful not to close the child’ s mouth when you lift his chin
15
(pocket mask)
16
Use the jaw-thrust without head-tilt method if you suspect the victim has a neck or spine injury
17
17 Continue resuscitation until: qualified help arrives and takes over, the victim starts to show signs of regaining consciousness, such as coughing, opening his eyes, speaking, or moving purposefully AND starts to breathe normally, OR you become exhausted. 18
AED Automated external defibrillator An important advance in providing BLS is the availability of the automated external defibrillator or AED. This improves survival outcomes in cardiac arrest cases
19
Rescue of pregnant Rescue of pregnant WomenChest compression on a pregnant woman is made difficult by flared ribs, raised diaphragm, obesity, and breast hypertrophy.
20
Because the diaphragm is pushed upwards by the abdominal contents, the hand position for chest compressions should similarly be moved up the sternum, although currently no guidelines suggest exactly how far
21
Infants rescue Give 5 initial rescue breaths before starting chest compression If you are on your own, perform CPR for 1 min before going for help. Compress the chest by at least one-third of its depth. Use two fingers for an infant under 1 year; use one or two hands for a child over 1 year as needed to achieve an adequate depth of compression
