1 Hour of Code 7 th Grade: Zombie Artist

2 Helpful Hints for Teachers Be sure students read each direction or helpful hint in between each level. When students get stuck – after they have asked you, have asked a neighbor – there is a ‘solution’ option located at the bottom left of the screen. This is a last resort, as we want students to try their best. Directions are in between each step, giving hints for the next step. For each step there is “See the Solution” option.

3 Helpful Hints for Teachers When students want to delete part of their code or start their code over, they can drag and drop the part they want to “trash” into the trash can located on the right side of the coding area. Coding functions are adjustable. If students want to “trash” their code to start over, drag and drop. For some coding functions, there are options to change the number, direction, color, etc.

4 Helpful Hints for Teachers Students can adjust the speed of their zombie’s illustrations by moving the slider towards the turtle, making it slower, or towards the rabbit, making it faster. If students do not read directions in between steps, directions are shown on the bottom left during the coding opportunity. Speed of the Zombie artist is adjustable with this slider here. In the bottom left corner, students can find the hints or directions to solve the current step.

6 Steps 5 – 8 “Solutions” STEP 5 STEP 8* STEP 7* STEP 6 **Teachers: please note, there is a large jump in coding abilities from Step 6 to Step 7 and up.

7 Steps 9 – 10 “Solutions” STEP 9 STEP 10 Teachers: Please use these “solutions” so you can direct and prompt your students’ thinking if they et frustrated. Please do not just give students the answers. As we often say “we must fail often to succeed sooner”! STEP 11 Step 11 seems to be just for fun – students can adjust the numbers to see what happens to their drawing.
