OVERVIEW Discusses entertainment activities that children pursue and explores how the activities relate to their development. We examine the role of traditional forms such as reading and poetry and the effect of the more controversial ones, television and computers. Also discuss music and arts and crafts

OVERVIEW The question of children's parties is explored, in particular the changes in expectations and the issues related to holding a party. An investigation of contemporary issues surrounding forms of entertainment.

OUTCOMES Identify suitable reading material for young children at each stage of development. Explain the importance for young children of hearing stories and poems read to them by parents and other caregivers. Describe how reading contributes to a child’s development. Summarise well-known reading methods.

OUTCOMES Examine how gender-stereotyping might be avoided. Investigate the role of poetry, music and art and craft in the development of young children, and the variety of experiences available. Examine the factors that make children’s parties successful. Critically examine a contemporary issue related to children and entertainment.
