Procedure Set up and program the Labpro. Set up the gondola to carry the Labpro. Fill the Balloon. Make sure the opening is completely sealed. Attach the gondola to the balloon. Use the labpro to measure the pressure. Analyze the data. In our experiment we will be measuring pressure. We will use a barometer and shaving cream. The shaving cream will expand as the pressure decreases.
3
Predicted Problems We may have trouble with the labpro. We would have trouble with time. The wind would cause the balloon to tilt at an angle when collecting our data. The shaving cream may not expand enough to be measured.
4
Expected results We expect to have the shaving cream’s volume increase at the same rate the pressure decreased We also expect that we would get the shaving cream into the tube easily and that It would not matter if it was level We thought that there would be enough time to do all our tests without rush There was only enough time to get 3 tests in instead of the 5 we wanted
5
Results The highest pressure was 99.104 kPa. The lowest pressure was 96.581 kPa From o to 800 feet there was a 2.6%decrease in pressure The shaving cream did expand but very little. Approximately 10% from 0 to 200 feet. The shaving cream increased 20% from 0 to 800 feet. This shows that the rate at which the pressure changes is not linear
6
Discovered Problems The heat dried the shaving cream The shaving cream was messy and the threw off the results The wind changed the altitue and the string was heavy which also affected it. The balloon string got tangled with other balloon strings We had little time due to sharing the labpro with other groups. Balloon didn’t have enough lift.
