5 Activities 2002-2003 Byatanal Village 1.To federate Women Self-help Groups for marketing of vegetables and food grains directly eliminating middle men/agent. 2.Organizing Kammatar Sangha (engaged in growing vegetables) for direct marketing and Talavara Sangha (landless labourers) to involve them in fish rearing in village tank. 3.To develop Dairy for 15 families through linkage with Malaprabha Grameena Bank, Kusanur. 4.To provide training to women; for making broomstick, basket and bowl with toddy leaves and growing toddy trees in 10 acre land (a part of 145.38 acre common land) for Koragas. 5.Developing Vermi Compost and encourage the families to grow Madivala Hagalakai, a medicinal plants, as vegetable in small and marginal farm lands. 6.Organize landless women to grow vegetable on “Lavani land” (Khori) to check migration of families: to coffee estates in Chikkamagalur).

7 Questions Raised in Last CSH 1.Is this budget for One Village for One Year of Hanagal Taluk? Answer: This budget is to support SPS activities at the macro level, such as organizing volunteers at different village and Taluk level. This budget is also for the activities in Hanagal Taluk which comes under their macro and micro level activities. 2. Cost Remains Constant, whereas number of Families are increased? Answer: This five year proposal is an experimental project. The progress is slow initially. The progress accelerates as the program matures. 3. What Happens to the First Set of Families supported? Answer: Organizational approach of this project takes care of sustaining the families benefited with minimal intervention by SPS.

8 More Questions Answered 1.How much Focus is on Education and Health Care? Answer: Currently, the main Focus is on Livelihood. Yet to make full effort towards education and Health care. However, A) linked health workers with Local panchayat in some villages. B) Improved working of the schools in terms of teachers, attendance through Gram Sabha in some villages. With their current experience of building gram sabhas and other organizations has shown success in Health and Education. How much to Fund? $2700-$3000 ?
