MAINSTREAM VS INDEPENDENT Mainstream films have a much larger budget to spend on the production of the film, this means they are able to hire very well-known actors and are able to spend a lot on advertising the film. Some examples of mainstream production companies are Warner Bros. and Universal Studios. Independent films are the opposite of mainstream films and are on smaller scale to them they do not have as near as much of a budget as mainstream films so cannot afford to have as well- known actors and do far less expensive advertisement such as TV broadcasts. Some examples of independent production companies are Optimum Releasing and Lionsgate.

3. ANIMUS. WHY MAINSTREAM? Animus is a mainstream film as it is a typical psychological thriller as we have followed a lot of the key Thriller conventions and have incorporated quite a few typical thriller plots into are film which is why Animus would appeal to a wide range of people. After looking through a number of production companies that would be good for our film we decided to with Universal Studios this is because they have distributed quite a few well- known Thriller films such as the Bourne trilogy, jaws and state of play. We believe that Animus would be able to bring a larger audience to them with is why I think they would be interested in backing are film. We also looked into Warner Brothers studios who would be interested in our film because they have already produced good and well known thrillers such as the dark knight trilogy and inception which would relate to our film because both the main characters become obsessed like our own main character. New Line Cinema are known for producing thriller films like seven which would relate to our film in many ways, these would be; that the main characters both become obsessed in capturing the criminal, also seven is a psychological crime thriller like Animus. 4. DISTRIBUTION Animus is a mainstream film which means that it would be shown at large cinema chains such as the Odeon, Vue and Cineworld this is because it would be backed by a large production company which target large markets. Plus Universal Studios is an international company it would mean that it would be show in other countries such as the US. Animus would also be made to run for a long period so everyone would be able to see it. It would also be shown at large festivals for promotion and award ceremonies like the Grammy's. Animus is a Thriller film which is targeted towards the younger generation 15-35, who use the internet so a lot of the advertising can be done online by doing viral and social networking campaigns.
