Reptiles Alligators, Crocs, & Iguanas

American Alligators -Will go through 2,000 to 3,000 teeth in a lifetime! -They have originally 74-78 teeth that must be replaced as they are worn down. -They are carnivorous (meat eaters). Their favorites are fish, birds, frogs and mammals located at the edge of waters. - Alligators live to be about 50 years old! -Gators are found in North Carolina, Texas and Florida.

Green Iguana -Eats plants, but in the zoo, they eat fruit, plants, and flowers. -They are oviparous (they lay 20-45 eggs). - Very lazy!! Never move too much!

Desert Iguana -Lives in sandy, desert regions. -Adult Desert Iguanas are brown and gray with spots -Adults grow to be 10-16 inches long -Eats a vegetarian diet -Enjoys climbing bushes and cool areas!!!

Frilled Lizard

This Kamoto Dragon is the world’s largest lizard. -It weighs as much as 155 pounds! -They have poisonous -Saliva to help kill their prey such as deer.

-This reptile lives in the jungles of South America. -It’s beautiful green color helps it hide within the leaves. -Emerald Tree Boas eat small mammals and birds.

Boas can be HUGE! -They kill their prey by Squeezing it until it SUFFOCATES!!!!!!!! - -They live in swamps and can grow to be the size of a CAR!

Rattlesnakes are among the most poisonous! -Here you see the “rattler” that is used to warn off predators. The fangs in its mouth inject venom into its prey. It is made from OLD skin.

A cobra’s “hood” makes it one of the most recognizable all snakes. -Most cobras are shy, but their bites Contain enough venom to kill up to 20 people or even an ELEPHANT!

This HUGE tortoise has an outer shell called a carspace. -Galapagos can live well over 100 years old.

Box Turtles -When frightened, box turtles retract their head,tail and limbs. - It is dangerous to eat box turtles because they eat poisonous plants.

-These reptiles swim great distances in the sea. They have no teeth, but use their sharp beaks to chew on plants, fish and even shellfish. - They have 4 powerful flippers used for swimming.

Chameleons - Reptiles that change colors. -Why do you think they change colors? -Their favorite foods are….. crickets and plants!
