Mercantilism – Economic system in which a country exports more than it imports, gains precious metals (gold), and imports raw materials from its colonies to sell back in the form of manufactured goods. B. Navigation Acts (1600s) – Laws passed by Britain to prohibit the colonies from selling certain raw materials to other countries. C. Salutary Neglect – Britain did not directly interfere in all colonial affairs as long as Britain made money each year. Allowed colonies to establish their own social, political, and economic systems.
