Monday, September 22, 2014 Direct Objects Direct objects receive the action of the verb. In order to have a direct object, there must by an action verb in the sentence. Ask yourself: What/Who received the action.

Monday, September 22, 2014 Cross out any prepositional phrases. Underline the subject once and the verb twice. Label direct object(s) – D.O. 1. The child grabbed the toy from his brother. 2. Susan chose the pink dress for the dance. 3. After dinner Father washed the dishes. 4. We ate bananas for breakfast. 5. The girl hit the ball to left field.

Tuesday, September 22, 2014 Verbs Verbs can perform an ACTION or they can LINK a verb phrase together; they do NOT need to be side-by-side. The linking verb is called a HELPING verb.

Wednesday, September 23, 2014 Regular and Irregular Verbs In regular verbs, the past and the past participle are the same. The past tense is formed by adding –ed to the verb. Irregular verbs do not add –ed to the past tense. Usually the past tense and the past participle form are not the same.
