About Northeast R-IV Elementary School PK- 5 Building Serves communities of Cairo, Jacksonville, and the surrounding area School population approximately 200 PK-5 PK-12 housed in the same building and share common areas of gym, cafeteria, library, computer labs, hallways No local industry, parents commute to work 17 staff members

Timeline Prep phase: 2009-2010 Revised ODR Collected baseline data for only one semester Wrote lesson plans Implementation Year 1: 2010-2011 Defined majors/minors Wrote Recovery Room Referral form—identified RR vs. OR behaviors Implementation Year 2: 2011-2012 Enlisted more staff help Refined system for rewarding positive behaviors

What’s working… Theme Character education skits each month Each trait is given a theme-based motto (“Don’t clown(fish) around…be industrious!!”; “Be honest—don’t sidestep the truth!”) T-shirts—staff wears shirts on first Monday of each month Shows staff unity All-school celebration—planned based on the theme Surf board snack, relay race, craft Reward system Tiki tickets presented to students

More what’s working… Rewards Free-and-frequent—Tiki tickets Awarded in language of the matrix Two-part tickets—students keep one to be use in Tiki store; other is used for weekly and schoolwide recognition Class recognition Classes keep track of total Tiki tickets—plan an incentive when 200 tickets are earned PE, Music, and Art teachers choose a class from each group for special recognition each week All-school celebrations When 4000 tickets are earned, an all-school celebration is planned
