ACTION VERB An action verb tells what the subject does, did, or will do. Example: Many tourists visit castles in Europe. Visit: what is being done

LINKING VERB Linking verbs link the subject of the sentence with a word in the predicate that describes the subject. Example: Garth’s stories about castles are wonderful. Are: links wonderful with stories

MAIN VERBS AND HELPING VERBS A verb phrase is made up of a main verb, the most important verb in a verb phrase, and one or more helping verbs. Example: The teacher will tell us about grammar. Will (helping verb) Tell (main verb)

IRREGULAR VERBS Irregular verbs do not have ed or d added to form the past and past participle. Examples: Leave=Leftburst=burstdrink=drunk Shine=Shonerun=randrink=drank

BE, HAVE, AND DO Remember: Be, Have, and Do can be used as main verbs or helping verbs. Example: I am at the mall. Am=main verb drinking my coffee. I am drinking my coffee. Am Drinking=(Am=helping verb) (Drinking=main verb)
