Symptoms: Abnormal curve of the spine. Your head will appear off center. One hip, or shoulder will be higher than the opposite. There will be more of curve on one side of your rib cage.
3
Prevalence: All ages can get this disease. Every 1,000 children 3-5 develop spinal curves. Girls are more likely to get it than guys. 2%-3% of Americans get the disease at the age of 16.
4
Causes/Transmitted: The cause of the disease is unknown. Could run in the family. The doctor looks at other possible causes to a curved spine before he diagnoses Scoliosis.
5
Treatments: Depends on the type and how severe the curved spine is. The three main treatments are observation, bracing, or surgery. Most people will not need to use anything. They might also use chiropractic manipulation, electrical stimulation, nutritional supplementation, or exercsie.
6
Interesting Facts: If the disease is really severe, it can make it more difficult for the heart and lungs to work properly. If your arms or legs are missing or abnormally short, you could get the disease. There are several types of Scoliosis based on the cause and the age when the curved developed.
