A prime number is a number greater than 1 and whose multiples can only be itself and 1. For example, 2 is a prime number because its multiples are only 2 and 1, therefore, the Sieve of Eratosthenes says to cross out all numbers in a given group that are multiples of 2, except 2 itself.
