Scale of Homelessness in Tower Hamlets Three quarters of Statutory homelessness acceptances are for households with dependant children or a pregnant woman. Currently house over 2000 families in temporary accommodation. 1 in 12 children live in homeless households

Needs of homeless Families Multiple needs. Overwhelmingly from most disadvantaged parts of community. 90%+ homeless families claim housing benefit. Disadvantages of homelessness well documented. Gap widening in areas where high density of homelessness.

Homeless Service Target 100% of households in temporary accommodation with children aged under 5 to be in contact with local Childrens Centre by July 2010. Establish Tenancy Packs Create Targeted Outreach Team

Methodology Data Source – Homeless Service Database. Systematic Targeted door knocking. Skilled & Effective Needs Assessment Childrens Centre Registration Appropriate & Timely Referrals Follow up

Snapshot Results 7 August – 21 October 2009 212 Families approached. 43 Families interviewed 7 Not interested 72 No responses 28 Moved away
