The university

Founded as Woolwich polytechnic in 1890. It was the second polytechnic in the UK In 1894 Part-time day courses proceeded in association with the Ministry of War (Woolwich Arsenal) Institute with Recognised Teachers in the University of London in 1907 Dartford college was incorporated in 1976 followed by Avery hill in 1985 and Garnett college in 1987 In 1988 the university incorporated some science courses from Goldsmith college and the city of London polytechnic Became known as the university of Greenwich in 1992 and in the year following incorporated Thames College of Health Care Studies followed by Natural Resources Institute (NRI) and established campus at Medway in 1996 Established Maritime Greenwich campus in 1999 A history of the university

Avery hill – built in 1890 and incorporated by the school in 1895 - set in 86 acres of parkland with 6000 students based within it - students relax amongst the tropical plants in the Grade I Listed Winter Gardens Excellent amenities: - with tennis courts, a cricket square, rugby and football pitches and ‘The Dome’, a purpose-built venue with bar and food outlets and capacity for 1,000 with a mega sound system. Maritime Greenwich Located on the banks of the river Thames, It includes three baroque buildings designed by Sir Christopher Wren and More than 8,000 students based here It was Built on the site of The Palace of Placentia where Henry Vlll and his daughters, Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth were born. It was Established as Greenwich Hospital in 1694 and Became the Royal Naval College in 1873 It is Now home to the Greenwich Foundation, University of Greenwich and Trinity College of Music. Schools include, Business School, School of Computing & Mathematical Sciences, School of Humanities, School of Social Sciences & Law, School of Education & Training and University-wide languages programme On campus The Stephen Lawrence Gallery hosts Art Exhibitions and Bar Latitude’ offers generous discounts with TV screens, pool tables and regular events including top DJ’s Ther is a new shopping complex above the Docklands Light Railway. Medway A major regional, national and international centre of research and consultancy expertise with almost 3,000 students based here Formerly home to HMS Pembroke, the Royal Naval Barracks Includes Medway School of Engineering, Natural Resources Institute, School of Chemical & Life Sciences and University-wide languages programme Facilities include modern computing laboratories, workshops and state-of-the-art equipment, a library with extensive collection of books and Two student bars, the ‘Drunken Sailor’ and an events bar the ‘Sub’ with TV screens, pool tables and regular social events Chatham and Gillingham with major high street shops and restaurants are both within walking distance or a short bus ride from the University.
