Adopted in 1899, Florida's flag represents the land of sunshine, flowers, palm trees, rivers and lakes. The seal features the sun, a palmetto tree, a steamboat sailing and a Native American (Seminole woman) scattering flowers.

Henry Flagler was an American oil tycoon, hotel creator and railroad developer. He founded Palm Beach, Florida, and is known as the Father of Miami, Florida. Flagler College is named after him in St. Augustine. Flagler County and the city of Flagler Beach are named for him as well.

Philip Donald Estridge, born in Jacksonville and lived in Boca Raton. Estridge led development of the original IBM Personal Computer (PC), and thus is known as "father of the IBM PC".
