PowerPoint Presentations Be prepared to present Monday, November 26! Either save your presentation on a jump drive or email it to yourself by Monday!

What Must Be Included? 1.Title Page 2.Purpose 3.Hypothesis 4.Materials 5.Methods of Procedure 6.Pictures and/or Drawings 7.Graphs and Important Tables (not every original table) 1.Results can be written directly underneath each graph or table 8.Conclusion 9.Acknowledgements

Slide #1: Title Page Give your project a title Make it a question: Do Non Stick Fry Pans Really Work? Coke…A Safe Drink? Make it catchy: Edible Electricity If It Fries Then You Die! Make it direct: Lead Levels in the Environment Sugar Content in Soft Drinks
4
Slide #2: Purpose Explain the problem or question investigated The purpose of this experiment was to find out how the density of plant cover affects soil erosion.
5
Slide #2: Purpose Then add a brief explanation of how it was tested: The purpose of this experiment was to find out how the density of plant cover affects soil erosion. This was tested by assembling three “hillsides” with varying numbers of plants and measuring the amount of soil which was eroded.
6
Slide #2: Purpose Then add a sentence about why you chose this experiment: The purpose of this experiment was to find out how the density of plant cover affects soil erosion. This was tested by assembling three “hillsides” with varying numbers of plants and measuring the amount of soil which was eroded. I first became interested in this experiment when the hillside next to our yard began to erode.
7
Slide #2: Purpose Finally, tell us how your information might help other people: The purpose of this experiment was to find out how the density of plant cover affects soil erosion. This was tested by assembling three “hillsides” with varying numbers of plants and measuring the amount of soil which was eroded. I first became interested in this experiment when the hillside next to our yard began to erode. The information from this experiment will help people to determine how many plants they should plant on their yards hillside.

Slide #2: Purpose All together now! The purpose of this experiment was to find out how the density of plant cover affects soil erosion. This was tested by assembling three “hillsides” with varying numbers of plants and measuring the amount of soil which was eroded. I first became interested in this experiment when the hillside next to our yard began to erode. The information from this experiment will help people to determine how many plants they should plant on their yards hillside.
9
Hypothesis Write about what you think will happen (your educated guess!) Be specific Don’t say “maybe” Next write WHY you think that will happen Use evidence, like your research, observations, etc.
10
Materials Use metric system when appropriate Link to Commonly Used Metric System Units Link to Commonly Used Metric System Units Always include a quantity (How many?) List with bullet points No capitalization or periods (it is a list, not a sentence) Incorrect Examples: Correct Examples: index cards 30 index cards, 4” x 6” soil 5 kg topsoil, 500 g for each pot water 100 mL tap water
11
Methods of Procedure 1. Number each step. 2. Do not write about gathering materials or creating a data table. 3. Begin each step with a verb command. 4. Capitalize and place a period at the end of each step. Correct Examples: 1. Pour 100 mL of water into the graduated cylinder. 2. Place one seed into each hole. 3. Have the participant sit in the chair facing the wall.
12
Pictures and/or Drawings Yes, you must have pictures. You may draw one item if it will help explain your procedures.
13
Graphs, Tables, Results One graph per page Write the important info. (results) under the graph Only a few people should include tables – if you think you should be one of them, come see me Tables should be a summary of your original data, not ALL your data
14
Conclusions – Use these guiding questions 1. What do the graphs tell you? What is significant/important about them? 2. Do you accept or reject your hypothesis? Why? 1. Explain with evidence (refer back to your graphs) 3. How could the project be extended- what else could a person do? 4. How does the project connect to the world?
15
Acknowledgements Here, you just thank those who helped you start, continue, or complete your project.
