H OW IS C ELADON MADE ? This kind of pottery originated in ancient China and spread to other regions of Asia, such as parts of Korea and Thailand. The pots, dishes, pieces, etc. are made from the clay, glazed, and then put into a kiln – a special kind of oven for firing pottery. The color is produced by iron oxide in the glaze recipe or clay body. (iron + oxygen)iron oxide The exact color depends on the mix of the glaze put on the pottery before firing, its thickness, AND the exact clay used in the pottery.
